High-speed chase ends in crash on La Grange Road

Second crash seriously injures driver

Two drivers were hospitalized early Saturday morning -- one with life threatening injuries -- after a series of events led to two car crashes.
The events began about 1 a.m. when Trooper H.L. Martin tried to stop a car on U.S. 60 in Shelbyville for suspicion of DUI. The driver, identified later as Jesus Rodriguez, of Taylorsville, led Martin on a 10-mile pursuit on La Grange Road. Police said Rogriguez failed to negotiate a curve and crashed. He was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to U of L Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Charges were pending Saturday; police said alcohol was involved.
While troopers and officers from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department were investigating the crash, a car heading south on La Grange Road slammed into the rear of a Shelby County fire truck, which was at the scene.
The driver, Casey McCall, of Simpsonville, was seriously hurt and taken to U of L Hospital. There was no word on his condition Saturday afternoon. Alcohol is suspected in that crash as well, and charges are pending.
No firefighters or police officers were injured in either crash. Shelby County Fire Chief Bobby Cowherd said the 1984 Grumman fire truck sustained major damage.

Meredith is coordinator of the Shelby County Backpack Project Inc., which feeds hundreds of children every weekend who would probably otherwise go hungry.

Creamer named to KHSAA Hall of Fame

Tom Creamer may have bounced around some as a high school basketball coach, but the pinnacle of his career came when he lighted in Shelby County and took the 1978 Rockets to the top. When it was time to settle down somewhere a little more permanent, he again looked toward Shelby County; it has been his home since 1992.

Dedicated to the horses

From the 'back barn' to the show ring

It has been a long time and a lot of good horses since Mike Spencer started grooming in the "back barn" for legendary saddlebred trainers Charles and Helen Crabtree. Barely a teenager, Spencer went to work as a groom for the Crabtrees. He was assigned to work in the barn in the back of the property.
