HEROINE NANNY TO BE ON 'ELLEN'
JB Hawes and his heroic nanny have been booked on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
Hawes confirmed Monday that he and 5-year-old Aden, for whom Hawes is guardian, along with nanny Alyson Myatt, are scheduled to be in Los Angeles April 7 for the show. He said he wasn't sure if NBC would tape the show or if it would be a live broadcast.
National audiences have already heard on the Today Show how Myatt, 22, Aden's live-in nanny, ran barefoot through flames last week to save the boy; Hawes was away on business when his Goldenrod Court home was consumed by fire.
Around 6 a.m. on March 23, Myatt found Aden's room and the hallway leading to it engulfed in flames. Myatt ran through the fire and snatched Aden, who was hiding under the covers.
Though she didn't feel pain, she said, something felt wrong, like she was "walking on goo."
"It was all the skin -- my feet were just burned off," Myatt told the Courier-Journal.
Myatt carried the boy back through the burning hallway and took him outside, where she jumped into a van and drove them both to a neighbor's house. The neighbor called 911 and drove them to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.
Ellen airs 4 p.m. weekdays on WAVE TV.

Meredith is coordinator of the Shelby County Backpack Project Inc., which feeds hundreds of children every weekend who would probably otherwise go hungry.

Creamer named to KHSAA Hall of Fame

When it was time to settle down somewhere a little more permanent, he again looked toward Shelby County; it has been his home since 1992.

Dedicated to the horses

At age 16, Ricky Mendoza spent four days in the Rio Grande crossing into the United States from Mexico. At times, the water was up to his chin. But he made it across and vowed he would never return.

From the 'back barn' to the show ring

It has been a long time and a lot of good horses since Mike Spencer started grooming in the "back barn" for legendary saddlebred trainers Charles and Helen Crabtree. Barely a teenager, Spencer went to work as a groom for the Crabtrees. He was assigned to work in the barn in the back of the property.
